If you feel this way, there is a place you must know. It is the National Gugak Center for the Southern Region, located in Jindo, Jeollanam-do.
It is a national institution operated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, dedicated to preserving and passing down traditional music and intangible cultural heritage of the southern region. It is not a flashy tourist attraction. Real performers play real instruments and present authentic performances here.

What kind of place is the National Gugak Center for the Southern Region?
The National Gugak Center for the Southern Region is located in Imhoe-myeon, Jindo County. Within its spacious grounds are a performance hall, practice facilities, and accommodation. It is not just a performance venue, but rather a complex cultural space where you can learn and experience traditional arts.
Its signature program is the Saturday regular performance, "I Love Gugak," which has been running since 2004. It is held every Saturday at the Jinakdang Hall, which has 434 seats. Traditional music, pansori, folk songs, and traditional dance come together on one stage.

There’s no need to worry. The National Gugak Center for the Southern Region operates dedicated programs for foreigners and overseas Koreans.
① Training programs for overseas Koreans and gugak groups
Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this program invites overseas Koreans and foreign gugak groups to Korea, offering hands-on training, performance viewing, and cultural tours. Accommodation and meals are included. It is more suitable for educational institutions or cultural organizations than for individual travelers.
② Saturday performances—A stage beyond language
Even if you don’t understand the lyrics of pansori or folk songs, the energy of the performance is universally felt.
